Ghanaian winger Ibrahim Sadiq was on target as AZ Alkmaar produced a stunning performance to demolish arch-rivals Ajax 6-0 in the Dutch KNVB Cup on Wednesday night.
The 24-year-old capped a memorable evening for the Alkmaar-based side by scoring the sixth and final goal in the 88th minute, putting the gloss on an emphatic victory that sent shockwaves through Dutch football.
Sadiq’s strike came just minutes after Troy Parrott had completed his hat-trick, underlining AZ’s total dominance on the night.
AZ were ruthless from the onset, racing into an early lead through Parrott in the 3rd minute before the Irish forward doubled the advantage on 33 minutes.
Peer Koopmeiners added a third from the penalty spot deep into first-half stoppage time, effectively ending the contest before the break.
Goals from Kees Smit shortly after halftime and Parrott’s third in the 80th minute further compounded Ajax’s misery, before Sadiq had his say late on.
Introduced as part of AZ’s attacking rotation, the Ghanaian winger showed great composure in the closing stages to finish clinically and seal one of AZ’s most dominant victories over Ajax in recent memory.
Sadiq’s goal continues an impressive campaign for the former Nordsjælland man, who has now registered eight goals in 23 appearances across all competitions this season.
The convincing win sees AZ progress confidently in the Dutch Cup, while Sadiq’s form will be a major boost for both club and country as he continues to push for greater prominence at international level with Ghana’s Black Stars.
