Asante Kotoko boss coach Abdul Karim Zito has issued a direct challenge to his players, demanding immediate improvement as the club endures a disappointing run of results that threatens their season objectives.
Speaking ahead of their crucial Ghana Premier League clash against defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars on Saturday, Zito expressed clear frustration with the team's recent performances, suggesting the club's fundamental identity is being lost.
"I told them my piece of mind that I wasn't happy, we did not do well, the identity is getting missing which is very bad," Zito stated in a blunt assessment. "We started [the league campaign well] but getting to this period, it is not going well. We should improve and stay focused to play better and then score."
Kotoko head into the match at the Dun's Park in Bibiani in poor form, having lost 2-1 to Swedru All Blacks and drawn goalless at home with Berekum Chelsea. This sequence has hampered their league campaign and increased pressure on the technical team.
In a bid to urgently address the team's glaring scoring problems, the club has secured the loan return of forward Albert Amoah from Libyan side Al-Ahly Benghazi. Amoah, controversially sold to the North African club late last year, is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the attack, though he will not be available for the weekend's fixture.
Coach Zito's public call for his players to raise their game and rediscover the team's core identity underscores the seriousness of the situation at the club.
With the gap to the league leaders widening, the response from his squad against Gold Stars will be a critical test of their resolve and ability to turn their season around.
