Asante Kotoko's Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, has clarified the circumstances surrounding Albert Amoah's return to the club, dismissing public surprise over the move and revealing it was a strategic decision initiated by his former club, Al Ahly Benghazi.
In an interview with Akoma 87.9 FM, Duku expressed his bemusement at the reaction to the loan deal. "I am surprised that many people are describing Albert Amoah’s return as shocking news. Situations like this are not unusual in football, where a club signs a player and later decides to release him on loan," Duku explained.
He detailed the process, stating that Kotoko had maintained an open line of communication with both the player and the Libyan club. "When they decided to release him on loan, Kotoko was the first option they considered, and we gladly accepted, taking into account Albert’s legacy at the club," Duku added, framing the move as a natural opportunity rather than a reactive panic buy.
Amoah, who was surprisingly sold to Al Ahly Benghazi last year after Kotoko's exit from the CAF Confederation Cup, has now returned on a loan deal. Duku is confident the forward's comeback will have a significant positive impact, particularly in addressing the team's recent scoring struggles.
The communications director believes Amoah’s return will positively impact the team, particularly by strengthening Kotoko’s attacking options.
The clarification from the club's spokesperson aims to reframe the narrative around the transfer, presenting it as a calculated and welcomed move rather than a desperate or surprising reaction to the team's poor form.
Kotoko will be hoping Amoah can quickly settle back into the squad and help turn their fortunes around.
