Asante Kotoko coach Abdul Karim Zito has issued a stark and frustrated assessment of his team's recent performances, warning that the club is losing its identity amid a worrying run of form ahead of their crucial Ghana Premier League match against Bibiani Gold Stars.
Speaking to club media, Zito expressed deep dissatisfaction with the team's current trajectory. "I told them my piece of mind that I wasn't happy, we did not do well, the identity is getting missing which is very bad," the coach said. "We started [the league campaign well] but getting to this period, it is not going well. We should improve and stay focused to play better and then score."
Kotoko's recent matches validate the manager's concerns. They head into Saturday's 15:30 GMT fixture at Dun's Park in Bibiani having failed to win in their last two league outings. Their form includes a 2-1 defeat away to Swedru All Blacks and a frustrating goalless draw at home to Berekum Chelsea. This slump stands in stark contrast to their form before the new year and has left them off the pace in the title race.
In a direct response to the team's struggles in front of goal, Kotoko have moved to bring back a familiar face. The club has officially announced the return of forward Albert Amoah on loan from Libyan side Al-Ahly Benghazi.
The 24-year-old, who was surprisingly sold to the Libyan club late last year, rejoins after a brief spell away. His return is seen as an urgent attempt to recapture the team's lost attacking identity.
For now, Coach Zito must find a solution from within his current squad to overcome the defending league champions, Gold Stars, and begin the critical process of restoring the pride and performance expected from the Porcupine Warriors.
