Asante Kotoko's supporters have launched a direct attack on the Ghana Football Association's Referees Manager, Alex Kotey, demanding his immediate removal from the role, in a dramatic escalation of tensions surrounding officiating in the Ghana Premier League.
Speaking on a Kumasi-based radio station, the leadership of the Asante Kotoko Global Supporters Union accused Alex Kotey of harbouring a clear bias against the Porcupine Warriors, alleging that his management of referees has led to consistently detrimental decisions in their matches.
“Alex Kotey has become a major problem for refereeing in the GPL,” said Kwaku Amponsah, the supporters’ patron. “We are calling on the GFA to remove him as Referees Manager and appoint a new person because he has shown clear bias against Asante Kotoko whenever decisions go against us.”
The supporters argue that Kotey's alleged influence is eroding confidence in the entire refereeing system. They insist that only his removal and the appointment of a new, impartial manager can restore credibility and fairness to the competition.
The accusations from one of Ghana's most powerful and vocal fanbases add significant fuel to long-standing debates about the quality and integrity of officiating in the domestic top flight.
The Ghana Football Association now faces mounting pressure to publicly address these serious allegations, which strike at the heart of the league's sporting integrity.
Asante Kotoko is currently engaged in a tense title race. The club, its management, and supporters have frequently expressed frustration with match officials this season, with head coach Karim Zito recently lamenting the team's struggles.
