English-Ghanaian defender Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu produced a measured all-round display and registered a key assist as Plymouth Argyle were held to a 1â1 draw by Mansfield Town at Home Park.
Operating from midfield, Sarpong-Wiredu sparked the breakthrough on 20 minutes, threading a clever pass into the box for Aribim Pepple, who coolly finished to give Argyle the lead.
Plymouth had the better of the chances and pushed hard to extend their advantage, but Mansfield gradually grew into the game. The visitors levelled before half-time when Ryan Sweeney headed in from a Regan Hendry delivery, and despite Plymouth’s 17 shots and superior possession after the break, neither side could find a winner in a tense second half.
Sarpong-Wiredu’s influence in and out of possession underlined his importance in a strong 2025/26 League One campaign, where he has made 24 appearances and provided 1 assist.
They will look to turn this solid performance into three points when they travel to face Stockport County in their next League One fixture on Saturday, 31 January.
