Heart of Lions Communications Director Eric Eli Adzie has firmly declared that his club remains in contention for the Ghana Premier League title, despite sitting seventh in the table and trailing leaders Medeama by a significant margin.
Adzie emphasised that belief is central to their campaign. "The Ghana Premier League has taught us some bitter lessons these few weeks, and we are not ruling ourselves out of contention because the moment we play in the tournament, we should be playing for the ultimate," he told Citi Sports.
Acknowledging the 16-point gap to the top, Adzie pointed to the unpredictable nature of the league as a reason for optimism.
"In as much as Medeama are actually runaway leaders, I think anything can happen in football," he stated. "If you look at the number of matches left, anything at all can happen. Clubs can falter, clubs can stumble, and others can also overtake them. So we are not out of the title race yet."
The statement comes as Heart of Lions prepare for their most daunting challenge yet: a home fixture against second-placed Asante Kotoko on January 31.
Currently on a poor run with just one win in their last ten matches, the Kpando-based side will need to transform Adzie's confident words into a stunning on-field result to reignite their faltering season and mount a credible title challenge.
