The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has hailed the newfound consistency of the Ghana Premier League, identifying it as the critical foundation for the domestic competition's long-term growth and its ambition to compete with Africa's best.
In an interview, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum emphasized the significance of having an uninterrupted league calendar, a recent achievement after years of disruptions.
"For many years, this is the first time we’ve had an uninterrupted league without court cases, injunctions, or disruptions," Asante Twum stated. "That consistency creates the right atmosphere for clubs to grow."
This stability is seen as the essential platform needed to bridge the gap with more established leagues on the continent, such as those in Morocco, Egypt, and South Africa. "Those leagues have been consistent over the years, and we haven’t had that consistency," Asante Twum noted, acknowledging the historical challenge.
The GFA official linked this administrative consistency directly to on-field progress, arguing that it allows for the sustained development that clubs require. "Growth comes with competition, finances, competitiveness and consistency," he explained.
Coupled with recent financial support for clubs, including a GHS 1 million pre-season grant for each top-flight team, the FA believes the league now has the stable environment necessary to build a stronger, more competitive future.
