Ghanaian youngster Douglas Owusu enjoyed a dream afternoon as he scored his maiden goal for Red Star Belgrade and provided an assist in their emphatic 5-0 victory over Novi Pazar in the 22nd round of the Serbian Super Liga on Saturday.
Owusu, who joined the Serbian giants from FK Radnik Surdulica during the January transfer window, opened his Red Star account in the 25th minute at the Rajko Mitic Stadium.
The winger latched onto a precise delivery from Aleksandar Katai and finished clinically into the near corner to give Dejan Stankovic’s side a deserved first-half lead.
The 19-year-old was a constant menace on the right flank and crowned his impressive performance with an assist early in the second half.
In the 58th minute, Owusu delivered a delightful cross with the outside of his boot, which was calmly finished by Vasilije Kostov to make it 3-0 and effectively put the game beyond the visitors.
Red Star, who controlled proceedings from start to finish, went on to score twice more through Rodrigao and Jay Enem to complete a dominant display in front of over 7,000 fans.
Owusu’s contribution underlined his rapid adaptation to life at Red Star following his mid-season move.
The Ghanaian attacker has now recorded eight goals and one assist in 22 appearances in the Serbian Super Liga this season, combining his exploits at Radnik with his early impact at Red Star.
His latest showing will further excite Red Star supporters and Ghanaian football fans alike, as Owusu continues to grow in confidence and influence at one of the Balkans’ biggest clubs.
