Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman of Asante Kotoko, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awuah, has called on the club to put the recent turmoil behind them and focus on reviving their season, beginning with Sunday’s high-stakes encounter against rivals Hearts of Oak.
His message comes in the wake of head coach Abdul Karim Zito’s resignation, which followed a poor run of results across all competitions.
Kotoko have won just once in their last five league matches, suffered a 6â1 aggregate elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup against Wydad AC, and were knocked out of the MTN FA Cup by Aduana Stars in a penalty shootout.
Assistant coach Prince Owusu has now taken over as interim head coach ahead of the Super Clash at Baba Yara Stadium on February 15.
According to a club statement, Nana Apinkra stressed the urgency of the moment: “We can’t afford further excuses. It’s redemption time, and let’s leave the past behind and focus on what is ahead. We must redeem ourselves on Sunday.”
The match carries added weight in the league standings, with Kotoko sitting fifth on 35 points and Hearts of Oak just one point ahead in fourth with 36 points.
As the Porcupine Warriors look to reset under new leadership, the chairman’s words signal a clear demand for accountability, unity, and an immediate response on the pitchâstarting with Ghana’s biggest derby.
