Asante Kotoko could be without star winger Peter Amidu Acquah for Sunday’s high-stakes Ghana Premier League showdown against archrivals Accra Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The 21-year-old, who leads the league with seven assists this season, is sidelined with an injury, leaving Kotoko’s attack potentially depleted ahead of the derby.
Kotoko head into the match in fifth place with 35 points from 21 games, just behind fourth-placed Hearts, who have 36 points. Medeama currently tops the table on 43 points, making the fixture critical for both Kumasi and Accra sides aiming to challenge for the title.
Kotoko have struggled for form, winning only one of their last five league games, and the absence of their creative winger could further hamper their attacking threat.
Amidu Acquah’s injury comes at a turbulent period for the Porcupine Warriors, who recently appointed Prince Yaw Owusu as interim head coach following Abdul Karim Zito’s resignation.
Zito stepped down after Kotoko’s disappointing exit at the MTN FA Cup round of 16, leaving the team searching for a spark to revive their league campaign.
