Asante Kotoko interim coach Prince Owusu has acknowledged that supporters are right to demand explanations following the club’s disappointing exit from the MTN FA Cup, admitting the Porcupine Warriors failed to meet expectations.
The caretaker trainer is now focused on restoring confidence ahead of Sunday’s crucial Ghana Premier League Super Clash against Accra Hearts of Oak.
Kotoko’s defence of the FA Cup ended abruptly after Aduana FC eliminated them on penalties at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, a defeat that triggered the resignation of head coach Abdul Karim Zito.
Owusu, who has stepped in on an interim basis, conceded that the frustration expressed by fans was understandable given the club’s standards.
“I think we are here for them [the fans]. We are here to play for and entertain them. What they were looking for, we were not able to give to them, so when they react, they have the right to do that.
“I’m glad nothing worse came out of it. But we just apologize. That will not happen again.”
Kotoko sit fifth in the league standings with 35 points from 21 matches, just behind Hearts of Oak, who have 36 points. With Medeama leading the table on 43 points, Sunday’s derby presents a vital chance for Kotoko to respond positively and reassert their title ambitions.
