Asante Kotoko midfielder Hubert Gyau has issued a defiant reminder that the Ghana Premier League title race is far from settled, urging patience and belief as the Porcupine Warriors prepare for a crucial run-in.
Speaking on Oyerpa FM ahead of Sunday's blockbuster Super Clash against Hearts of Oak, Gyau dismissed any suggestion that Kotoko's eight-point deficit to leaders Medeama SC is insurmountable.
"There are still many matches to play," Gyau emphasised. "Our focus on the league title hasn't changed. If we beat Hearts of Oak on Sunday, we believe we'll still have a strong chance to win the league."
With 13 fixtures still remaining in the campaign, the midfielder's message is one of calculated optimism rather than blind hope. Mathematics, after all, remains on Kotoko's sideâbut only if results begin to turn in their favour, starting this weekend.
Sunday's showdown at Baba Yara Stadium against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak carries double significance. Beyond the fierce rivalry and bragging rights, victory would cut the gap to the summit and inject belief into a squad that has endured coaching changes, early cup exits, and inconsistent league form.
Gyau, one of Kotoko's standout performers this term, represents a dressing room that refuses to wave a white flag. His words are both a reassurance to the faithful and a warning to the chasing pack.
The title race is not over. The matches remain. And Kotoko, wounded but unwavering, still believes.
