Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has insisted that his commanding performance in Sunday's Super Clash victory over Asante Kotoko was driven solely by club dutyânot the presence of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo and his technical staff in the stands.
Asare delivered a composed display between the posts at Baba Yara Stadium, helping the Phobians secure a 1-0 win despite playing the final stages with ten men following Emmanuel Amankwah's red card. His save from Kwasi Poku in the second half was particularly crucial in preserving the narrow advantage.
Speaking to Asempa FM after the match, Asare revealed he was unaware of the national team coaches' attendance until after the final whistle.
"Otto Addo and the Black Stars technical team had no hand in my performance yesterday," he said. "I was fully focused on delivering for the team, and I only realised after the game that they had come to support me."
The goalkeeper, who has already impressed in World Cup qualifiers and friendly matches for Ghana, made clear where his priorities lay on Sunday.
"It was a good game against Asante Kotoko, but we were determined to win and take revenge."
With Hearts now second in the league standings, just five points behind leaders Medeama SC, Asare's focus remains firmly on club success. But performances like Sunday's will only strengthen his case for inclusion when Ghana heads to the 2026 World Cup.
