Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ progress, despite their underwhelming showing at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The senior national team returned to the World Cup stage in Qatar after missing the 2018 edition in Russia.
Their campaign, however, ended in disappointment, following a defeat to Portugal, a thrilling 3-2 victory over South Korea, and a final group-stage loss to Uruguay, which saw them finish at the bottom of Group H.
Speaking to Asaase Radio, Okraku reflected on the experience, saying: "Before the 2022 World Cup, nobody gave Ghana the chance of qualifying, but against all odds, the team did it, and at that time, the team was very light and against the trust and belief of everybody, we stood firm and beleived in our way and won the battle against Nigeria, and we went to the World Cup.
"We did not qualify from the group phase, but we left Qatar with our heads up because we saw the youngest team at the tournament, and they put up an amazing performance.
"In the second group game against South Korea, we played well, and that gave us hope for the future," he added.
Looking ahead, the Black Stars are set to make their fifth World Cup appearance this summer in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, where they will face Panama, England, and Croatia in Group L.
