Former Ghana international Hamza Mohammed has tipped Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku to become the long-awaited successor to the legendary Abedi Pele.
Speaking to 3 Sports, Mohammed described the 21-year-old as the âfuture of the Black Stars,’ suggesting that Issahaku possesses the rare potential to fill a void in Ghanaian football that has existed since the 1990s.
"Who knows? Maybe he will be one of the Abedi Peles that we’ve never seen since the legend left the game," Mohammed stated.
He urged fans to pray for the player to remain injury-free, noting that Issahaku’s current formâboasting eight goals and seven assists this seasonâjustifies the high expectations placed upon his shoulders.
The comparison invokes the towering legacy of Abedi "Pele" Ayew, widely regarded as one of the greatest African footballers of all time and a pioneer for the continent in Europe.
A three-time African Footballer of the Year and a UEFA Champions League winner with Marseille, Pele was the heartbeat of the Black Stars for nearly two decades, famously leading Ghana to the 1982 AFCON title.
His departure left a vacuum of creative brilliance and leadership that subsequent generations have struggled to replicate.
By likening Issahaku to the âMaestro,’ Mohammed is highlighting more than just technical skill; he is identifying a transformative talent capable of restoring the national team to its former glory.
