English-Ghanaian forward Daniel Adu-Adjei delivered a standout performance as Rijeka beat Omonia Nicosia 3â1 to book their place in the next round of the Conference League final stage.
Coming into the tie with a 1â0 advantage from the first leg in Cyprus, Rijeka had to respond after Muamer Tankovic’s early strike put the visitors ahead and levelled the aggregate score.
Toni Fruk dragged Rijeka back into control after the break, first levelling on the night from a Tiago Dantas assist, then putting his side 2â1 up with a cool finish created by Adu-Adjei’s clever work in the final third.
Adu-Adjei crowned his evening on 79 minutes, finding the net himself to make it 3â1 and complete a goal-and-assist display that underlined his growing influence in Rijeka’s attack.
The win sealed a 4â1 aggregate success and extended Rijeka’s strong home form in Europe.
Next up, they return to HNL duty with a league clash against NK Lokomotiva on Sunday, March 1, as Adu-Adjei looks to carry his European form back into domestic competition.
