Ghanaian midfielder Aaron Essel has expressed his excitement after completing a transfer to USL side Sacramento Republic FC from Scottish Premiership club St Johnstone.
The 20-year-old will officially join the squad once league approval, his P-1 visa, and the International Transfer Certificate are finalised. But his enthusiasm is already evident.
"I'm thrilled to join Republic FC," Essel said. "Sacramento has a passionate football culture, and I can't wait to get on the field and give my all for the team and the supporters."
Essel is familiar with American football, having previously spent time on loan at MLS NEXT Pro side North Texas SC. During the 2025 season, he made 17 appearances, scoring twice and registering one assist while maintaining an 86% passing accuracy.
The former Bechem United star has also represented Ghana at a senior level, making his debut against Nigeria in the Unity Cup in May 2025.
For Essel, the move to Sacramento represents another step in a promising career and a chance to make an impact in a football-mad city.
