Ghanaian midfielder David Abagna came off the bench to make a decisive impact in APOEL Nicosia’s thrilling 3â2 victory over AEL Limassol in the Cyprus League.
With the score level at 1â1, Abagna restored APOEL’s lead in the 59th minute, timing his run perfectly to finish from a Stefan Drazic assist just moments after being introduced.
APOEL had gone ahead late in the first half through Daniel Mancini, only for Leo Natel to equalise for AEL on 58 minutes. Abagna’s quick response swung the momentum back in the visitors’ favour, and Drazic later added a third on 81 minutes to seemingly kill the game. A late Sergio Conceicao penalty in stoppage time cut the deficit, but APOEL held on for an important away win.
In the 2025/26 Cyprus League season, Abagna has played 11 games and scored one goal.
The result strengthens APOEL’s push into the top four of the table as they now prepare for their next league outing against Anorthosis on Sunday, March 8.
