Medeama SC will be desperate to return to winning ways and consolidate their position at the top of the Ghana Premier League when they host Hohoe United on Sunday.
The Mauve and Yellow saw their advantage at the summit trimmed to just one point last weekend after close rivals Bibiani Gold Stars FC continued their strong run of form. Medeama themselves have endured a rare dip in results, dropping points in four consecutive league matches â drawing three and losing one. It marks the first time since January 1, 2025 that the Tarkwa-based side have gone four league games without a victory.
Despite that recent slump, Medeama remain one of the most formidable sides in the Premier League. They are currently the league’s top scorers with 32 goals from 24 matches while maintaining a solid defensive record, conceding just 15 goals â the fourth-best in the competition.
Head coach Ibrahim Tanko will be eager to see his side halt the frustrating run as they return to the comfort of the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium, where Medeama have been nearly unstoppable this season. The league leaders boast one of the strongest home records in the competition, remaining unbeaten with eight wins and four draws, scoring 21 goals and conceding only seven in front of their supporters.
Their opponents, Hohoe United, arrive in Tarkwa fighting to climb out of the relegation zone but buoyed by signs of recent improvement. The newly promoted side are unbeaten in their last three league matches, recording two wins and a draw while keeping two clean sheets during that run. Their most recent outing saw them claim a notable victory over FC Samartex 1996 at the Hohoe Sports Stadium.
However, Hohoe United remain 16th on the table with 27 points from 24 matches, having scored 20 goals and conceded 24. Their biggest challenge has been their struggles away from home. The Hohoe-based side have managed just one win in 11 away matches, alongside four draws and six defeats, highlighting the magnitude of the task they face against the league leaders.
With Medeama determined to reassert their dominance and Hohoe United battling for survival, Sunday’s clash promises to be a compelling encounter as both sides chase crucial points at opposite ends of the table.
