Medeama SC suffered a major setback in their Ghana Premier League title pursuit after falling 2â1 to relegation-threatened Hohoe United in a dramatic encounter in Tarkwa on Sunday.
The defeat marks Medeama’s first home loss of the 2025â26 Ghana Premier League season at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium, ending their impressive unbeaten run on home soil and denting their title momentum.
After a tightly contested first half, Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side broke the deadlock shortly after the restart when Kelvin Obeng found the back of the net just two minutes into the second half. However, Medeama’s lead proved short-lived as the visitors responded swiftly.
Hohoe United drew level in the 53rd minute when Fatawu Sulemana inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net, giving the visitors a crucial equaliser in what had been a fiercely contested match.
The hosts were then handed a golden opportunity to reclaim the lead after being awarded a penalty moments later. But in a costly turn of events, goalkeeper Felix Kyei, who stepped up to take the spot kick, failed to convertâmarking Medeama’s second penalty miss in three weeks.
That miss proved pivotal. Hohoe United seized the momentum and later capitalised on a moment of indecision from Kyei, who had strayed off his line, allowing the visitors to calmly slot the ball into an empty net to complete a remarkable comeback.
The result stunned the home crowd in the bustling mining town of Tarkwa and handed Hohoe United a famous and hard-earned victory on the road.
