English-Ghanaian midfielder Malachi Boateng produced a standout display, providing two assists in Plymouth Argyle’s impressive 3-0 win away at Wigan Athletic in League One.
Plymouth struck twice just before half-time, with Bim Pepple forcing the ball over the line from a scrambled free-kick before Boateng teed him up again five minutes later to drill home from 15 yards.
Wigan briefly threatened a response after the break, but a key moment saw Joe Taylor’s goal-bound effort deflect off a Plymouth defender and land safely in keeper Luca Ashby-Hammond’s arms, with appeals for handball waved away. Argyle then killed the game off, as Boateng again showed his vision in midfield, sliding a clever pass for Caleb Watts to add a composed third with 19 minutes remaining.
Boateng’s influential performance underlined his growing importance this season, where he has made 36 League One appearances, scoring three goals and providing seven assists in the 2025/26 campaign.
The victory strengthens Plymouth’s play-off push ahead of their next league fixture against Mansfield Town, where they will look to build further momentum.
