Ghanaian forward Nathan Opoku has signed a contract extension with Leicester City, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2026/27 season, the club announced on Thursday.
The 24-year-old striker has agreed to a 12-month extension with the Foxes as the Championship side continues to show faith in his long-term development.
Opoku joined Leicester in January 2023 from Ghanaian outfit FDM Field Masters Sporting Club after an impressive rise in his career.
Since his arrival in England, the striker has spent time gaining valuable experience through loan spells in Europe.
The Ghanaian attacker enjoyed two separate loan stints with Belgian side OH Leuven, where he made 25 appearances in the Belgian Pro League. His performances in Belgium helped him adapt to European football while continuing his development.
This season, Opoku is furthering his growth in England’s lower divisions with Newport County, who compete in EFL League Two.
The striker has scored five goals in 23 league appearances for the Exiles so far during the campaign. His latest goal came in Newport County’s 3-1 victory over Salford City last month.
The Welsh side is currently managed by former Leicester defender Christian Fuchs, adding another connection between Opoku and his parent club.
The contract extension reflects Leicester's belief in the Ghanaian striker’s potential as he continues to gain valuable experience through regular first-team football.
Opoku will be hoping to maintain his impressive form at Newport as he pushes to make a stronger case for a future role with the Foxes.
