Ghana defender Derrick Kohn has made it clear that personal relationships with German players will count for nothing when the Black Stars face Germany in an international friendly on March 30 in Stuttgart.
Speaking on Sporty FM, the Union Berlin left-back acknowledged his familiarity with the German squad from his weekly battles in the Bundesliga but stressed that familiarity breeds competition, not complacency.
"I know a lot of players from the Germany national team because I play every week against them. But on the field, we're not friends. We want to beat them," Kohn declared.
The 27-year-old has been named in Otto Addo's 26-man squad for the upcoming friendlies against Austria and Germany, crucial preparation matches ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, with their tournament opener scheduled against Panama on June 17 in Toronto.
Kohn's experience in the Bundesliga provides Ghana with valuable insight into the German setup. His comments reflect the competitive mindset within the Black Stars camp as they gear up to face one of football's traditional powerhouses on home soil.
Ghana will first face Austria in Vienna on March 27 before travelling to Stuttgart for the Germany clash three days later.
