Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has shifted focus from individual recognition to the bigger picture, insisting Leicester City must fight to preserve their Championship status following a costly six-point deduction for breaching financial rules.
The Ghanaian winger, who recently claimed the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month award for February, is prioritising the club’s survival over personal accolades as the season enters its decisive phase.
Leicester’s position has been further complicated by the sanction, leaving them second from bottom with just eight matches remaining.
Despite his standout campaign, Fatawu made it clear that individual success counts for little without collective results.
“I always try to score and give assists, so it is nice when your hard work pays off,” Fatawu said. “Everything we do on the pitch is to win, so we need to do better and keep working hard between now and the end of the season to make sure we stay in this league.”
The 22-year-old has been one of Leicester’s brightest sparks in an otherwise difficult season, delivering nine goals and seven assists in 37 appearances.
His attacking output has provided a consistent threat, but the team’s struggles have left them firmly in the relegation battle.
Fatawu’s award-winning strike against Birmingham City, a superb long-range effort, underlined his quality and ability to influence games.
