Ghanaian forward Daniel Afriyie was on target but could not prevent FC Aarau from slipping to a 3â1 home defeat against Etoile Carouge in the Swiss Challenge League.
Afriyie, introduced from the bench, hauled Aarau level on 77 minutes, finishing a rare clear opening after the hosts had chased the game for long spells.
Etoile Carouge had struck first midway through the first half through Oscar Correia, punishing Aarau’s slow start despite the home side enjoying more of the ball and racking up 21 shots. Afriyie’s goal briefly lifted the Brügglifeld crowd, but the visitors remained dangerous on the break and forced Aarau into desperate defending late on.
In the closing stages, Brazilian forward Itaitinga decided the contest, converting two penalties in the 89th and 92nd minutes to seal all three points for Etoile Carouge and end Aarau’s recent good run of form.
Afriyie’s strike takes him to 10 goals and 6 assists in the 2025/26 Challenge League, underlining his importance in the final third. Aarau now turn their attention to Saturday’s trip to Bellinzona as they look to respond quickly and keep their promotion push on track.
