Former Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien has called on Ghanaians to rally behind Mohammed Kudus as the national team prepares for the 2026 World Cup.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, sidelined since January due to injury, was a key figure during Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers.
Essien described the 25-year-old as the country’s brightest football talent, emphasizing the need to protect and support him.
“If I start talking about him [Kudus], we won't finish!” he said with a smile," the former Chelsea midfielder told FIFA.com.
“I think he has showcased himself to the football world. He’s one of the biggest talents, and for Ghana, he's our star.
"We have to protect him and give him all the love and confidence he needs," he added.
Kudus missed Ghana’s recent friendlies against Austria and Germany but is expected to return for the final pre-World Cup friendlies against Mexico and Wales in May and June.
The Black Stars, making their fifth World Cup appearance, will compete in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
