English-Ghanaian winger Owura Edwards produced a standout display and laid on a key assist as Colchester United eased past Swindon Town 3â0 at the JobServe Community Stadium.
Edwards was a constant threat down the left and broke the game open early in the second half, driving at the defence before picking out Arthur Read, who swept home the opener on 48 minutes.
That goal settled any nerves and Colchester never looked back. Will Goodwin doubled the advantage six minutes later, finishing from an Ellis Iandolo pass as the hosts took full control of the contest. Harry Anderson then wrapped things up in the 69th minute, again combining with the excellent Iandolo to make it 3â0 and cap a dominant performance.
Colchester’s pressing and attacking intent were reflected in the stats, with the home side racking up 25 shots and five big chances while limiting Swindon to very little going the other way.
The victory gives Colchester valuable momentum in League Two ahead of their next fixture at home to Accrington Stanley on Tuesday, April 14.
