Inaki Williams heads into the weekend with another big milestone in sight as Athletic Club prepare to host Villarreal at San Mamés.
The Ghanaian striker is on course to become the fifth active player in La Liga to reach 400 league appearances, underlining his endurance and importance for the Basque side.
This season has been tough for Athletic and for Williams himself, who has kept racking up games and assists but has not been as decisive in front of goal as in previous campaigns. Even so, Villarreal remain one of his favourite opponents. The striker has been involved in eight goals in 22 league matches against the Yellow Submarine, registering five goals and three assists, with only Real Betis and Celta seeing him contribute to more.
Sunday’s clash comes with both Williams brothers under the spotlight, as Nico looks to build on his recent return and Inaki aims to rediscover his best version in front of a home crowd that knows exactly what he can do. Athletic have won three of their last four at San Mamés, and a strong performance from Inaki Williams could be key to pushing the team toward the 41-point mark.
