Ghanaian striker Caleb Ekuban stepped off the bench to score a dramatic late winner as Genoa edged Sassuolo 2-1 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Introduced on 55 minutes, Ekuban pounced in the 84th minute, steering home from Junior Messias’ pass to complete the comeback and send the home crowd into raptures.
Genoa had started brightly and took an early lead through Ruslan Malinovsky, who finished a neat move after being teed up by Tommaso Baldanzi. Sassuolo grew into the game after the break and levelled on 57 minutes when Ismaël Koné found the net, setting up a tense finale. The hosts kept pushing, with substitutes Messias and Ekuban adding fresh energy in attack before combining decisively for the winner.
Ekuban’s strike continues a solid 2025/26 Serie A campaign for the 32-year-old, who now has 27 league appearances, 4 goals, and 1 assist. The victory lifts Genoa’s spirits after a mixed run of form and keeps them looking up the table rather than over their shoulders. Next up, they travel to face Pisa in Serie A on Sunday, April 19, where Ekuban will hope to build on his match-winning display.
