Following the tragic armed robbery attack that claimed the life of Berekum Chelsea midfielder Dominic Frimpong, club captain Prince Anane has urged the Ghana Football Association to implement stricter travel safety measures to protect teams on domestic assignments.
The incident occurred on the BibianiâGoaso road at Ashiresu as the team returned from their Ghana Premier League match against FC Samartex.
Speaking on Akoma FM, Anane proposed that clubs should be barred from travelling long distances immediately after games, especially when the journey exceeds three hours.
"My appeal to the GFA is that, going forward, there should be strict measures to prevent clubs from travelling long distances after matches," he said.
He further suggested that teams be allowed to rest overnight before making the return trip.
"If the away team's destination is more than three hours away, the team should stay overnight and travel the next day," he added.
The shocking attack has sent waves of grief through Ghana football and reignited demands for improved security arrangements for clubs travelling for league matches.
The Ghana Football Association has since pledged to collaborate with security agencies and other stakeholders as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, Berekum Chelsea have resolved to continue their season in honour of their fallen teammate, ruling out any withdrawal from the league.
