German-Ghanaian attacker Justin Diehl produced a bright moment with an assist, but VfB Stuttgart II slipped to a 3â1 defeat away to Alemannia Aachen in 3. Liga action at the Tivoli.
The hosts struck first after just nine minutes, when Niklas Castelle finished from close range following good work by Jonas Oehmichen.
Stuttgart II responded strongly after the break and were rewarded on 49 minutes. Diehl drifted into space on the right and picked out Leny Meyer in the box, who applied a composed finish to level the score at 1â1 and briefly swing momentum towards the visitors.
Aachen, however, regained control as the half wore on. Mika Schroers restored the lead in the 58th minute, turning in a cross from Lars Gindorf, before Marius Wegmann made it 3â1 with a tidy finish from a Gianluca Gaudino assist on 72 minutes.
Despite further attacking changes, including Diehl’s withdrawal on 68 minutes, Stuttgart II could not find a way back. They will now look to respond in their next league outing, an away trip to Erzgebirge Aue on Sunday, April 19.
