Guinea-Bissau’s Alamara Djabi is in stable condition after being seriously injured in a stabbing incident in Denmark.
The 19-year-old midfielder, who plays for FC Midtjylland, was attacked in the early hours of Sunday in Herning, the town where the club is based.
Djabi was initially in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery. The club later confirmed he had a second operation and is now recovering.
“He has awakened from an induced coma and is doing well under the circumstances,” Midtjylland said in a statement, acknowledging the efforts of medical staff.
Police have identified a 20-year-old suspect who remains at large. Authorities say the motive is still unclear, but early indications suggest a dispute between Djabi and the attacker.
The young midfielder joined Midtjylland from Benfica’s academy in 2023 and has made two senior appearances. He also spent time on loan at CD Mafra and featured in Europa League qualifying this season.
Djabi is regarded as one of Guinea-Bissau’s promising young talents.
