Accra came to a standstill on Wednesday evening as Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz touched down at the Kotoka International Airport to begin his tenure with the Black Stars.
The 73-year-old was greeted by a sea of passionate Ghanaian supporters as he touched down in the West African country for the first time.
The atmosphere was electric, with fans chanting his name and waving national flags, signaling a wave of renewed optimism following the departure of Otto Addo in March.
The veteran tactician’s arrival sets the stage for his official unveiling scheduled for Thursday, April 23, at 1:00 PM at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
Tasked with leading Ghana through the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Queiroz brings a wealth of elite experience, having previously managed Real Madrid and the national teams of Portugal, Iran, and Egypt.
Local football enthusiasts are hopeful that his tactical discipline can steady the team before their Group L openers against Panama, England, and Croatia.
With friendly matches against Mexico and Wales looming in June, Queiroz is expected to hit the ground running immediately after signing his short-term contract, which includes an extension clause based on tournament performance.
