Former Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has opened up on his decision to step down from the club despite guiding them to Ghana Premier League glory in his first spell in charge.
Ogum, who is currently the head coach of the Black Starlets, led the Porcupine Warriors to the 2021/22 league title shortly after his appointment, marking one of the most successful debut seasons in the club’s recent history.
However, in a candid reflection, the former WAFA trainer explained that he chose not to continue at the club after the season due to certain issues that left him dissatisfied, despite still having time left on his contract.
“After the season, I think certain things went on which I wasn’t okay with so humbly and respectfully, I engaged management and I told them that I wasn’t interested in continuing again even though I had a year left of my contract,” he said on GFA Podcast, hosted by Patrick Akoto.
Ogum’s revelation sheds light on the circumstances surrounding his exit at the peak of his success, following a campaign that restored Kotoko to the summit of Ghanaian football.
His departure marked the end of a remarkable first stint that delivered silverware, but also hinted at underlying tensions that influenced his decision to walk away.
