Black Starlets head coach Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed immense pride after leading Ghana back to the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, ending a nearly decade-long absence from the continental tournament.
"Coaching one of the national teams has always been my dream. It's a huge joy to qualify Ghana for the U-17 AFCON after eight years," Ogum said.
The Black Starlets secured their spot in Morocco after a successful WAFU Zone B campaign in Côte d'Ivoire. Ghana have been drawn in Group D alongside Senegal, Algeria, and South Africa for the tournament, which also serves as a qualifier for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Ogum also reflected on the differences between coaching a club and a national team.
"The dynamics of club team coaching are very different from national team coaching," he noted, pointing to the limited preparation time and the challenge of building chemistry among players from various backgrounds.
With the tournament fast approaching, Ogum's focus remains on instilling discipline, confidence, and a winning mentality in his young squad. For the coach, leading the Black Starlets is not just a jobâit is a dream fulfilled.
