Manchester United boss Michael Carrick has indicated that he is giving youngster Kobbie Mainoo more responsibilities as the 2025/26 season heads into the last few games.
The English midfielder of Ghanaian descent has enjoyed regular playing time at the club since Carrick was handed the Red Devils job until the end of the season.
On Monday night, Mainoo started the English Premier League encounter against Brentford and lasted the entire duration of the contest.
In a match played at Old Trafford, the midfielder starred with his performance, helping Manchester United to claim a crucial 2-1 win at full-time.
Speaking on the performance of Kobbie Mainoo after the match, Michael Carrick only had praise for the 21-year-old.
“I thought on the back of the Chelsea game, where he was particularly good and showed similar things, with a bit of everything. His build-up play, his taking of the ball, his creation and starting the attacks, he’s so effective with that. But definitely, his duels, his 1v1s, recovery runs and back-tackling - over the last two games he’s taken that up a level. It’s great to see that he can do it,” Carrick said.
The coach further disclosed how Mainoo is being handed additional responsibilities in the last few matches of the season.
“We’re trying to give him more responsibility as the games go on. We’re still not expecting too much of him and understand and try to help him a bit, but he’s doing great at the moment,” Carrick added.
