Gianni Infantino has officially declared his candidacy for the 2027â2031 FIFA presidential term, entering the race with significant early support from key confederations.
Both Asian Football Confederation and CAF have publicly endorsed his bid, delivering a combined backing of 101 votes from their member associations.
With FIFA comprising 211 member associations, that leaves 111 votes yet to be decided from Europe, North and South America, and Oceania ahead of the election.
Infantino’s eligibility for another term has been shaped by a 2022 interpretation of FIFA statutes, which ruled that his initial period in office from 2016 to 2019, when he succeeded Sepp Blatter, does not count as a full term under the three-term limit.
If re-elected, the 2027â2031 cycle would likely mark his final term in charge of world football’s governing body.
The next FIFA presidential election is set to take place at the 77th FIFA Congress in 2027, where all member associations will cast their votes.
