Former Black Stars captain Andre Ayew and NAC Breda are facing the threat of relegation with only two matches remaining in the Dutch Eredivisie season.
NAC Breda currently sit 17th on the league table, six points behind 16th-placed FC Volendam, and must win their final two matches while hoping Volendam lose both of theirs to avoid relegation from the Dutch top flight.
The club’s survival hopes suffered another setback after losing an appeal seeking a replay of their match against Go Ahead Eagles over claims the opposition fielded an ineligible player.
The Dutch Football Association had dismissed Breda’s complaint regarding the eligibility of defender Dean James before the club challenged the ruling in court.
However, the court upheld the federation’s decision, ruling that the Dutch FA has discretionary authority over matters involving the replay of matches.
Ayew joined NAC Breda in January and has scored once in 15 league appearances since arriving at the club.
The 35-year-old, who remains Ghana’s all-time appearance holder, will hope to help Breda keep their slim survival hopes alive when they face Heerenveen on Sunday, May 10.
It has already been a difficult season for the Ayew family, with younger brother Jordan Ayew suffering relegation with Leicester City earlier in the campaign.
