For years, Semper Fi have quietly worked towards becoming genuine promotion contenders in the Access Bank Division One League. This season, they finally showed they are no longer outsiders dreaming from a distance.
Their 2-1 victory over WAFA at the McDan Sports Complex in Teshie on Friday brought the curtain down on a remarkable campaign that may ultimately be remembered as the foundation for something bigger.
Semper Fi finished second in Zone III, seven points behind promoted side Port City. Missing out on promotion will naturally hurt, but the season still represented major progress for coach Moses Adjin-Tetteh and his squad.
The numbers alone tell the story.
Semper Fi finished the campaign with 58 points, a huge improvement from the 41 points they managed last season. They also recorded 17 wins, their best return in recent years, while developing a reputation as one of the most consistent and difficult teams in the division.
Perhaps the biggest sign of their growth was their ability to build momentum.
They produced seven consecutive victories during the first half of the season and ended the campaign with another stunning winning streak, finishing with six straight victories to underline their consistency and mentality.
Beyond the results, there was visible belief around the club throughout the season. The team played with confidence, discipline and purpose, while the technical team steadily built a competitive side capable of matching the strongest clubs in the zone.
Coach Adjin Tetteh deserves enormous credit for the transformation. His side looked organised, resilient and increasingly mature as the season progressed. The management also played an important role in creating stability around the club.
While promotion narrowly escaped them this season, the landscape in Zone III could now shift in Semper Fi’s favour. With Port City moving up to the Premier League, one major obstacle has disappeared.
That reality alone will fuel optimism.
Semper Fi now head into the next campaign not simply hoping to compete, but with genuine expectations of challenging for qualification to the Ghana Premier League.
After a season like this, dreaming no longer feels unrealistic.
