Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson has opened up on his appointment to the role, describing it as a natural progression he believes was guided by destiny rather than coincidence.
Sampson, who has experience working in women’s football during his time in Sweden, says his background prepared him for the opportunity and made the transition into the role seamless.
“I am a strong believer that things do not just happen for no reason; there is a meaning to everything. I believe I was meant to come here,” he said.
He explained that his previous coaching experience helped shape his readiness for the Black Princesses job.
“During my time in Sweden, I worked with the women’s side for a while and was also responsible for the U-20 women for almost two years, and at the time I also worked with the senior team. I was already conversant in those roles, so when it came, I saw it as a destined thing,” he added.
Sampson also revealed that his long-standing connection with Ghana’s U-20 women’s team influenced his familiarity with the setup, especially after his daughter earned a national team call-up.
“I have followed the U-20 of Ghana closely ever since my daughter earned a call-up. Coaches like Yussif Basigi, who was in charge at the time, is someone I look up to a lot. I have been following the team closely since then,” he noted.
Now in charge of the Black Princesses, Sampson believes his appointment was part of a long journey that naturally led him back to Ghanaian women’s football.
“When I was appointed, I knew it was my time,” he concluded.
