Jonas Adjetey will have a final shot at securing top-flight football with VfL Wolfsburg when they enter the Bundesliga relegation playoff on May 21 after narrowly avoiding automatic demotion.
Wolfsburg kept their survival hopes alive with a crucial 3-1 victory over FC St. Pauli, a result that lifted them to 16th place in the 18-team Bundesliga standings at the end of the 2025 to 2026 campaign.
That finish condemns them to a two-legged playoff against SC Paderborn, with the first leg scheduled in Wolfsburg on May 21 before the decisive return fixture on May 25 in Paderborn.
Despite the late escape, Wolfsburg endured a difficult season, collecting just 32 points from seven wins, eight draws and 19 defeats. They finished only three points above relegated .
Adjetey, who joined Wolfsburg from FC Basel in January on a four-year deal running until June 2030, has found opportunities limited since his arrival.
The Ghana international has made only four Bundesliga appearances and was not included in the squad for the decisive win over St. Pauli, raising questions about his role ahead of the high-stakes playoff.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, the upcoming fixtures could prove pivotal for both Wolfsburg’s survival and Adjetey’s push for form and relevance.
