Yaw Paintsil delivered a key contribution but could not prevent Lillestrøm from falling 2-1 at home to Kristiansund in the Eliteserien on Wednesday.
The Ghanaian left-back set up Salieu Drammeh’s equaliser early in the second half, whipping in the ball for the winger to finish from the centre of the box in the 55th minute.
Kristiansund had gone ahead after just 14 minutes through Adrian Kurd Rønning, who finished low into the corner from the right side of the area. Paintsil was heavily involved throughout, winning several free kicks on the left flank and even trying his luck from distance just before the break with a left-footed effort that flew over.
Lillestrøm’s hopes of turning the game around were damaged in first-half stoppage time when Harald Woxen received a second yellow card, leaving the hosts down to ten men. Kristiansund then struck the winner in the 56th minute, as Leander Alvheim finished clinically from the centre of the box to make it 2-1.
Despite late pressure and chances for the home side, Kristiansund held on for the points. Lillestrøm now look to respond in their next Eliteserien fixture, away to Sandefjord.
