Ghana international Jonas Adjetey and Wolfsburg will compete in the German Bundesliga 2 next season after suffering relegation from the top-flight.
The Black Stars defender was an unused substitute as his side fell short against Paderborn in the playoff, resulting in their relegation from the Bundesliga ahead of next season.
Over two legs, Wolfsburg lost 2-1 to Paderborn, with the first leg ending goalless. The second leg also finished 1-1 after regulation time, before Lauri Curda’s goal in the 99th minute of extra time sealed victory for Paderborn.
The enterprising defender joined Wolfsburg in January this year on a four-year deal but endured a difficult spell in Germany, making just four Bundesliga appearances.
Despite his limited involvement at club level, the defender has been named in the 28-man provisional Ghana squad released by coach Carlos Queiroz on Monday night.
The squad will be trimmed down to 26 for the official announcement on June 1, as stated by Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku.
Adjetey was one of nine defenders selected in the Black Stars pre-World Cup squad, which also includes Baba Rahman and Abdul Mumin. Scroll down to view the full list of invited players.
