Nations FC captain Razak Simpson says his side used external doubt as motivation en route to their MTN FA Cup triumph, insisting they proved critics wrong with their performances despite being relegated from the Ghana Premier League.
Simpson made the comments after leading Nations FC to a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout win over Dreams FC in the 2025/26 FA Cup final at the University of Ghana Stadium.
“Yes of course. Since we went to relegation, I’ve been hearing rumours they were saying, âOh, because we’ve gone to relegation.’ So I think they underrated us but all the same, from that, that is our saying here, a form, and today we do the talking on the pitch,” he said.
Nations FC held Dreams FC to a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes, with Joseph Effah scoring in the 31st minute before Abdul Razak Salifu equalised on the stroke of half-time.
Both sides created chances in extra time but could not be separated, sending the final to penalties where Nations FC converted all five attempts to lift the trophy.
Simpson said the team’s discipline, particularly in defence, played a key role in their success as they limited their opponents’ scoring opportunities.
“Yes, I would say yes because so far as we have won, we didn't allow them to score us many goals like they think they will be scoring us but all the same I have to give glory to the Almighty God,” he added.
The victory capped a historic campaign, making Nations FC the first relegated club in 34 years to win the FA Cup.
