Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has made it clear that he is not bothered by constant comparisons to his famous footballing family, insisting that his only goal is to be the best version of himself.
Speaking ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 34-year-old forward addressed the inevitable comparisons to his father, the legendary Abedi Pele, his brother Andre Ayew, and his uncle Kwame Ayew, all of whom have captained or starred for Ghana.
"I don't compare myself to my dad. I have never said that I want to be like Andre or Uncle Kwame," Jordan Ayew said.
"I have always wanted to do my own life, my own career, and try to be the best version of myself, to be the best for me and to try to make my family proud. The only thing I can be is a good version of myself."
Jordan Ayew is preparing to compete in his third FIFA World Cup, having previously featured in the 2014 and 2022 tournaments. Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia and open their campaign against Panama on June 17.
The Leicester City forward played a key role in Ghana's qualification for this year's tournament and has embraced the captaincy. He noted that dealing with the pressure of his family's name has been a reality since childhood, but he has never tried to replicate anyone else's path.
For Ayew, the focus remains on leading the Black Stars on football's biggest stage and carving out his own legacy.
