Asante Kotoko's decision to appoint Stanley Menzo as Director of Football is the clearest indication yet that the club is preparing for a major overhaul following a disappointing 2025-26 season.
The Porcupine Warriors ended the campaign without a trophy and outside the Ghana Premier League's top four, a significant setback for a club that began the season with high expectations after winning the MTN FA Cup and qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Instead of building on that success, Kotoko endured a difficult campaign marked by inconsistency and changes on the technical bench.
Karim Zito was relieved of his duties after a challenging start to the season, while his replacement, Prince Yaw Owusu, also departed before the end of the campaign. Hamza Obeng was eventually left to guide the team through the final stages of the season.

The instability affected performances on the pitch as Kotoko struggled to compete with the leading teams and ultimately missed out on a top-four finish.
Against that backdrop, Menzo's appointment represents the first major step in reshaping the club's football structure and technical direction.
The former Ajax and Netherlands goalkeeper has been tasked with overseeing football operations, including recruitment, player development, technical strategy and the integration of the academy and senior team.
His arrival is unlikely to be the last significant change. Kotoko are expected to appoint a new substantive head coach ahead of the new season, while discussions are also ongoing regarding the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer.
Taken together, the developments suggest the club is moving towards a new era under a more defined football structure.
After a season of disappointment, Kotoko's leadership will hope Menzo's appointment lays the foundation for a more stable and successful future both domestically and in African competition.
