Former Ghana head coach Otto Addo has officially commenced duties as a member of FIFA's Technical Study Group (TSG) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the sole African representative on the prestigious panel.
Addo joins an elite 11-member team tasked with analysing tactical trends, coaching innovations and team performances throughout the tournament. The group also plays a key role in determining recipients of major individual awards at the World Cup.
The FIFA Technical Study Group is responsible for producing detailed technical reports and identifying developments that contribute to the growth and evolution of football globally. Its assessments provide valuable insights for coaches, players and football administrators around the world.
The former Black Stars coach will work alongside renowned football figures including Tobin Heath of the United States, Germany's Jürgen Klinsmann, Wales' Jayne Ludlow, Northern Ireland's Michael O'Neill, Brazil legend Gilberto Silva, Denmark's Jon Dahl Tomasson, Costa Rica's Paulo Wanchope, the Netherlands' Aron Winter and Argentina's Pablo Zabaleta.
The panel will be overseen by FIFA Senior Football Expert Pascal Zuberbühler and Head of Football Performance Insights Tom Gardner. They will be supported by a team of analysts, data engineers, data scientists and performance experts operating from tournament hubs in Miami and Dallas, as well as an off-site unit in Manchester, England.
Addo's appointment places him among some of football's most respected minds and reflects FIFA's confidence in his technical expertise and ability to evaluate performances at the highest level of the game.
His selection comes only weeks after his tenure as Ghana coach ended following disappointing results in international friendlies against Austria and Germany in March. Despite those setbacks, Addo successfully guided the Black Stars to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign in Group L, where they are scheduled to face Panama, England and Croatia in the group stage.
