The Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah, has issued a firm caution to the Black Stars and all stakeholders involved in Ghana football, urging restraint and discipline following the team’s opening victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the lawmaker stressed that the campaign is only just beginning and warned that early success must not breed complacency as the team advances through the group stage.
Ghana opened their World Cup account with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Panama in Toronto on Wednesday, June 17, a result sealed deep into stoppage time.
Caleb Yirenkyi struck in the 95th minute after being set up by substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante, securing all three points in dramatic fashion under head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Despite the positive start, Amoah insisted that the margin for error remains thin and called for sustained effort across all levels of the national setup.
"I want to send this caution. I beg all the stakeholders not to be complacent. This includes the coach, the management body, the players and the entire state because the Bible says that faith without works is dead," Amoah stated.
"Let us not be sluggish, indolent and inactive and begin to be too complacent to the extent that we don’t get to where we want to get to. I believe that if it is the will of God, with prayer and hard work, we will go far."
