Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has defended the government's World Cup ticket distribution system, insisting that a rigorous process prevented any embezzlement of tickets meant for Ghanaian fans.
Speaking on Sporty FM's Sporty Breakfast, Adams detailed the measures put in place to ensure transparency in the allocation of 2,922 tickets for the Black Stars' three group-stage matches.
"The system I put in place was so rigorous that those in charge of the final pressing of the thumb for the tickets to go could not do so without my indication," Adams stated.
The tickets were distributed through Ghana's missions in Canada and the United States, with selected fans, supporter groups, sponsors, stakeholders, and members of the diaspora receiving electronic tickets through FIFA's mobile ticketing system.
The Ministry confirmed that 948 tickets were allocated for the Panama match, 1,000 for the England clash, and 974 for the Croatia fixture. The tickets were not for sale but formed part of a coordinated national support programme.
Adams' comments come amid widespread demand for tickets, with the ministry acknowledging that interest far exceeded the limited supply. The scheme covered only the group stage and will not continue into the knockout rounds.
"We understand the disappointment of supporters who could not be accommodated within the limited allocation," the ministry said in a previous statement.
